Fondue

A traditional Swiss dish where cheese is melted, and bread or other food is skewered on a long fork to be dipped and eaten.

It originated in the Swiss Alps, and the name "fondue" comes from the French word "fondre," meaning "to melt."

White wine with little sweetness is warmed and added, and well-aged cheeses such as Gruy?re or Emmental are melted to make it.

Place of Origin: Swiss Alps Region

Characteristics:

The unique way of eating makes it a popular dish at parties or events. There is an interesting tradition where if a woman drops food into the pot while eating fondue, she must kiss the man on her right, and if a man drops food, he buys the wine.
